Blog writing guidelines

Every post on Read2Reason is public — anyone can read it. Before you save, check yours against these.

  • Write about reading

Books, authors, ideas, the reading life. Reviews, essays, reading journals, lists and arguments are all welcome — adverts and sales pitches are not.

  • Follow Read2Reason’s community rules

The same rules as everywhere on the site (Privacy and terms, section 11): treat people with respect and courtesy. No harassment, threats or discrimination, and nothing illegal.

  • No abusive, hateful or vulgar content

Disagree as strongly as you like with a book or an idea, never attack a person. No obscene words or pictures, and nothing sexually explicit.

  • Use only words and pictures you have the right to use

Write in your own words. Quote a book briefly — a short passage, credited to its book and author — never whole chapters. Add only pictures you took or made yourself, or that you have permission to use. Copying someone else’s article or photo without permission breaks copyright law.

  • Mark spoilers

If you give away an ending or a twist, say so near the top, so readers can choose.

  • Keep people’s private details out

Don’t publish anyone’s address, phone number, email or private messages — yours included.

  • Readers decide what stays

Anyone can give a post stars. Once a post has 10 ratings, if more than 70% are two stars or fewer, it comes off the Blog page and we tell you. The site manager may also take down a post that breaks these guidelines.

The full community rules are in Privacy and terms, section 11.

The first post on Read2Reason’s blog could be yours: a book that changed your mind, one you’d argue about, or how you choose what to read next.
