About Read2Reason
A club.A library.A place to find your next read.
Read2Reason is a home for people who read in English. Browse shelves the way you would in a library, meet readers who love what you love, and talk about books as if you were all in the same room.
For the love to reason.

Why it exists
Among books, and the people who read them
We wanted a place that feels less like a list and more like walking into a library.
Shelves you can wander. A cover that catches your eye. The writer’s other books close at hand. And somewhere nearby, a reader who has just finished the one you’re holding and wants to talk about it.
That is what Read2Reason sets out to be: somewhere to find your next book, share your taste in reading, and argue about ideas with people who care about them as much as you do — among other readers, and among the authors whose work brings you here.
Every book on our shelves is published in English. It is the one thing they all have in common; the rest — the era, the genre, the size of the argument — is yours to choose.
The library
Start with a shelf
The shelves are arranged by genre, from classics and poetry to travel and science, and each opens onto narrower shelves inside it. Every book has its own page — its details, its subjects, its edition — and you can put it on your own lists: Currently Reading, Already Read or Want To Read.
Every author has a page too, with their books ordered by how often they have been published, so the ones that lasted come first. For many there is a short profile from Wikipedia and a portrait where a free one exists, both credited where they appear.
Search by title, author or ISBN from the box at the top of every page, or use Advanced search on the home page to narrow it by publisher and year. On the home page, eight books people are reading this month, and eight from the twentieth century that changed the rules.
Every book page gathers what members think of it — their stars and their reviews, with spoilers folded away until you have finished it — and offers More like this: other books by the same writer or from the same shelves. Found one a friend would love? Recommend it to them, with a note. And if a book isn’t on our shelves yet, any member can add it by its ISBN, and it is there for everyone.
Our catalogue comes from ISBNdb, one of the largest book databases in the world. It is the ground we build on, which is why there is so much to browse — and why there will be more.
The club
A club that feels like a room
Anyone who joins can start a club — open to all, open on request, or private and by invitation — and invite people with a link. Clubs are where Read2Reason comes alive.
We built them so that running one is simple, and being in one feels like being in the room with everyone else: reading, talking, disagreeing, reading at the same time.

Inside every club
- Discussions
Conversations tagged by chapter, so nobody meets a spoiler before they get there.
- Room chat
Talk with everyone in the room right now — mention someone with @. Every message goes to the whole room, never to one person, and your own record of it waits in My Chats.
- Passages
The lines that stayed with you, shared and talked over — always credited to their book.
- Reading schedule
Who reads how far by when, with everyone’s place — alphabetical, never a race.
- Meetings
Calls and get-togethers in your own time zone, a link to join, and a calendar of everything booked. A meeting can be opened to everyone, on the public events calendar.
- Where we meet
Clubs that meet in person show where — to their members, or to anyone signed in — and you can search for clubs in your own town.
- Club library
Real books on the club’s own shelves. Ask the librarian, borrow two at a time, and bring them back by the date — with a gentle reminder if you forget.
- Author Q&A
Questions put to an author or a guest, voted up by the club, answered in writing or live.
- Reading sprints
Read at the same time as everyone else, wherever you are — then say how far you got.
- Bingo and the quiz
A shuffled card of reading prompts, and questions on the book — for fun, never a leaderboard.
- Polls
Choose the next book together, from nominations, by secret ballot.
- Past reads
Every book the club has finished, with its discussions, its passages and the club’s verdict.
A green dot shows who is in the club with you right now. Step out whenever you like — you stay signed in, free to walk into another room.
What we promise
A few things that won’t change
- It’s free
Every feature of Read2Reason is yours to use at no cost: joining, the shelves, the author pages, starting and running a club, every room in it, its library and its meetings. There is no subscription and no paid tier.
A book’s Buy button sends you to Amazon, and Amazon may pay us a small commission. That costs you nothing extra, and it never decides which books we show you.
- It waits for you
Read2Reason won’t chase you once you have closed it. No phone notifications, no texts, and no emails about what is happening — your chats, messages and notifications all stay inside Read2Reason, and you read them when you choose to come back.
It is like a closed book, silently waiting for you to read its next page when you choose to.
The only emails we ever send are the few an account cannot do without: confirming your address, a password reset you asked for, a warning about a sign-in from somewhere new, and notice before our privacy terms change.
- Eighteen and over
If you are 18 or older, you are welcome to join. Browsing needs no account at all.
- Your reading is yours
We never sell data, share it with advertisers, or put third-party trackers on the site.
There are no share buttons following you around, and no video players watching what you do. Your email address is never shown to other members, and you can keep your reading place — even whether you are in a club right now — to yourself.Room chats are kept for twelve months, then deleted. Who was in a club, and when, is not kept at all.Read the privacy policy and terms.
- Everything credited
Book data from ISBNdb, author profiles from Wikipedia, portraits from Wikimedia Commons, and every passage with its author, title and chapter — each credited where it is used.
Early days
This is the beginning
What you see here is the first stage in the life of Read2Reason. We mean to keep adding to it — more books, more ways to read together, more of what makes a club feel like a club.
We will always be trying to see what you will want from us before you have to ask, and to improve in that direction. When we get something wrong, we will put it right.
